"Favorite Books"

What is your favorite Justine Davis or Justine Dare title?

When did you first read it and what is it about that story that makes it stick in your mind?

The very 1st book that I got that was by Justine Davis was.....Angel for Hire. I was in 7th or 8th grade at the time. The thing that stuck in my mind back then was the character Mark. The way he was discribed in the book made you think of some big guy in a bar scaring the daylights out of people. But for me I pictured him being big BUT he was a great BIG soft BEAR. Now, since I'm older I sometimes feel like the character Alex Logan....at her wits end! But luckly for her, she was sent Michael. I'm still looking for my "Michael". :+

I meant to drop in here on April 1st; it seemed appropriate somehow. Thanks to the folks who have beaten me here, both for coming and for the kind words.

Katz, I'm so glad you still remember ANGEL FOR HIRE. It was a special book for me, too. And for any struggling writers out there, may I mention it was at first rejected, and later went on to win the RITA?

Thanks again, and come back any time!

   That's a hard question!

MORNING SIDE OF DAWN is wonderful!

But the two futuristics were incredible as well!

Hi, Eliza!

Thanks for stopping by! It's lovely to see a familiar name. And also for mentioning three of my other personal favorites! And a couple of extremes: a book I sweated blood over (MORNING SIDE OF DAWN) and a book that I felt like a transcriber on, it came so quickly and completely. (LORD OF THE STORM)

Hard to choose. Really, really hard to choose. I've a soft spot for Morning Side of Dawn. I'd been looking forward to it for ages - I'd always hoped Dar's story would get written.
My youngest daughter was maybe six or eight months old at the time - and quite unexpectedly one day started fitting. We ended up in hospital, and they did the meningitis tests and my husband did the breakneck rush to the hospital from work - and she was bunged full of antibiotics and admitted to hospital. I was still breastfeeding, so I stayed too. With a streaming cold. On a very uncomfortable camp bed. For several days.
(She was diagnosed with reflux and I was incredibly grateful that it was nothing more serious.)
My husband would come to the hospital in the morning, I'd go home, shower, remind the older girls what I looked like & go back. At the end of the week, when she looked likely to be allowed home, I called in at a nearby supermarket to buy chocolates for the nurses - and found a copy of Morning Side of Dawn.
So I had a blissful last morning in hospital, with her sleeping, and me sitting beside the cot wallowing in the story. It was a real gift at the end of a rotten week.
I'm not sure that makes it The Favourite Book - I've got a bit of a thing for Ryan ... and Cruz... and Insert Name Here ... - but it's A Favourite Book - and the only one I bought a second copy of, lest the first disintegrate from rereading.

Marianne,
Thank you for those sweet words. It's one of the greatest pleasures of this work, hearing things like that.

I hope your daughter has been well since?

I can't pick a favorite, but I remember the first book. I think it was part of the original "Fortunes" series done for Sil or Harlequin. Then I started getting a hold of all the Trinity Street West books. And then the single titles... suspense, historical, paranormal. I'm a WEE bit of a Justine Dare/Davis fan!

Ciao!

Ah, NIGHT FIRES. One of the few books where I actually loved the cover! Evan Maxwell called it "Kristin Hannah meets Stephen King." I think he was right.

I can't really pick one favorite. My first one was Stevie's Chase. In fact, it's sitting on my night table right now. I loved Dar's and Sean's stories too. I also loved the Trinity Street Street West series, especially Clay's story. Lord of the Storm and The Skypirate are up there too! I guess you could said that I love emotionally gripping books.

Hi, Robin,

Thanks! Emotionally gripping is what I'm after; it's what started me reading romance and what keeps me writing it.

I've been thinking of offering those three books, Stevie, Sean and Dar as a prize package, and now that you bring them up, perhaps I will.

Of course, I should check and see if I can even find copies before I open my mouth, I suppose....

I couldn't put Dangerous Ground down! Fantastic characterization, action and suspense! Is there a chance it will ever be reprinted? Then there was the really great futuristic Load of the Storm and Sky Pirate....

Hi, Dana,

Thanks for dropping in. I'm glad you liked Dangerous Ground. I had great fun with the Dangerous Duo, as it were. As to reprinting, I don't control that, the publisher does, at least for now. I wish writers ruled the publishing world, then everything we loved would always be in print!

Hi, Joyce,

Welcome! Ah, I did love that Skypirate book. The result, that is. The process was painful, and as I dealt with trying to make Califa a heroine, more than once I stopped and asked myself "What were you thinking???"

Hands down, for me, "The Morning Side of Dawn", featuring the wonderful disabled character of Dar, an intelligent, passionate & completely well-rounded hero, & a great pairing with Cassie. As a mother of a retarded daughter, I love to read books with characters who make the most of their particular situations & overcome great odds, & this story definitely fits the bill. Close behind, the oh-so-touching books of Trinity Street West, particularly, the pairings of Quisto/Caitlin & Ryan/Lacey. All truly memorable characters that really lived for me & which I will remember forever.

Patricia,

Thanks once again. It's nice to know that particular book stays with people. I remember one of the most special reader letters I've ever received was from a lady who told of being in her bank the day after she'd finished reading it. There was a woman in a wheelchair also in line. She said before, she would have smiled perhaps, but that was all. But now she struck up a conversation, they discovered they had much in common, and she now had a new friend. It made the blood, sweat and tears worth it.

Without a doubt, my favorite is "The Skypirate." I can't even say how many times I've reread the book. I loved how Califa was redeemed. Simply brilliant!

I also loved "Cool Under Fire." That was the book that made Justine Davis a must-buy author for me. And "Morning Side of Dawn" is another book I reread regularly.

Justine, I read the frequently asked questions and I'm so sorry that we still won't see the kids from LOTS and SP. I'd love to see their story and Rina's as well. Thanks for hours of great reads!

Welcome, Patti!

Ah, you make all that work with Califa worthwhile. Thank you. I do hope someday I will get to write the kids story, for my own satisfaction if nothing else. Who knows, it may turn up here someday, a chapter at a time. As for Rina, no story has come to me for her. Yet. I never say never, since it tends to backfire!

Thanks for stopping by, and again, welcome to the board.

Justine

Alikitt--

Welcome to the board! Stick around and play awhile. I'm delighted you liked Trinity West. They were great fun to do, and I admit, Miguel was a personal favorite of mine. The fact that I lived with Jimmy Smits' photo on the wall throughout the writing had nothing to do with it, of course. And ANGEL FOR HIRE was one of those very special books that came to me complete, all I had to do was keep up and then polish the details, so it's very special to me.

Thanks for all the kind words, and again, welcome.

Justine

Hello All!! I have just recently discovered Justine and have begun scouring all the used book stores for anything by her. I can tell you that I will be unable to choose a favorite. Her books just grab you and I myself can't put them down until I finish them. Thank you Justine!!!

I just found this site and I'm so glad that there's an official one.

I've loved all of the books, but my favorite one has to be Morning Side of Dawn. I love it completely and totally. I've had my copy for years and re-read it every few months. Another one that sticks in my mind is the entire Trinity Street West series. Again, I gather them all together and spend the day enjoying. I can't wait for the Bombshell series next month so I can get my hands on the first book!

Oh, wow. This is hard. How can you possibly choose? It all depends on my moods.

I LOVED Cool Under Fire. And years later after I discovered UBS's I found out I had completely missed To Hold An Eagle. Both really increidble stories.

Then there's Stevie's Chase where Chase makes me cry every time. Left At The Altar with Sean who has grown so much since SC. And Dar...OMG...I'm head over heels in love with Dar.

But I think if absolutely forced, (and large caliber weaponry would have to be involved here) my favorite book would be Suspicion's Gate. LOVED the relationship between Nikki and Travis. Especially the very end.

*sigh* Now I'm gonna have to go read parts of it.

Darn it.

Lynda

Was I ever surprised...I did a search to find Justine's books and I found this website. How cool !!
My favorite book ?? Is that possible ?? It has to be my very first one I ever read from Her. "Loose Ends". I've read it soo many times I've lost count. Summer and Shane. Could characters get any better.
I love Justine's books so much.
Morning side of Dawn is my second fav. But I love them all. Right now I'm reading Avenging Angel. I got behind...
Is there a new one coming out soon ?

Thanks for your books Justine. I'm glad I found this place !!

I love, love, love the Redstone, Incorporated series. I can't just pick one, it would be like having to pick a favorite child. I accidentally read them out of order. I first read Her Best Friend's Husband a long time ago, then recently picked up Redstone Ever After at which point it finally clicked that there was a series. So I located all the books and in the past three days I have read every single one.

I am completely jealous because I would love to have a boss like Josh and work for a company like Redstone. You created an absolutely wonderful collection of characters and told such great stories, I can't believe we're at the end. At least, given the title of the last book, I'm assuming we're at the end.
